The Need

You know breast cancer. 1 in 8 women. 1 in 800 men. A woman gets it every 2 minutes (USA). But what about this 👉🏻 30% of early stage breast cancers will come back as late stage cancer - 1, 5, even 20+ years later. This is called Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) or late stage IV.

MBC hits different.

Imagine This 👉🏻 someone you CARE about gets breast cancer. It is late stage, meaning it has spread around your body. There is no cure, today. Survival is 2-3 years, and treatment is life, if it works. Who can help them navigate this chaos, will treatment work, if on treatment - can they still work, can they keep their job, who pays the bills, is the cancer center far away, who will pick up the kids from school, and who will take care of family later?

There is no single place to get help on these. Specialized support is needed to improve quality of life, give the best chance, and give hope to the 168,000 living with MBC and their caregivers.

Those living with Metastatic Breast Cancer are in a different class, deeply shattered and just trying to survive hour by hour, and need more than just standard support.

These issues form a massive barrier to a patient’s quality of life and their ability to heal and thrive in the face of immense challenges.

Unicorn Cancer Thrivers Foundation was founded to address the challenge, to improve the quality of life of Metastatic Breast Cancer patients and caregivers.

We fund & advise specialized programs that employ a human-centered design approach; in other words - services that see the patient as a PERSON, and places them front and center. These services include complex treatment navigation, support groups, education, and financial aid for those affected by MBC. We also actively engage in MBC advocacy, awareness, and resource creation.

What We Do

Advocacy

Advocate for improving metastatic breast cancer patient quality of life via active representation on advisory committees or change organizations focused on MBC patient 360 support, research funding, or policy & legislation advancement.

Education & Awareness

Publish / produce / share educational content on how to thrive in the face of metastatic cancer, how to support cancer thrivers as caregivers, and awareness for metastatic breast cancer facts and research.

Grants & Donations

Provide grants / donations for specialized programs providing navigation (treatment, clinical trial, support), support groups, education, and financial assistance for those affected by metastatic breast cancer; and initiatives improving patient experience using human-centered design.
